- Budgetary Restrictions? A2 is a much cheaper material than A4
- Torque Requirements? If it needs to be high tensile will the thread size be substantial enough
- Certification and standards? Speak to us for specific certification

Frequently Asked Questions
What are metal screws made of?
Metal screws are usually made from a variety of different metals. This can be from premium stainless steel screws all the way down to cheaper metals like, copper and brass. Each metal material has different properties and you should check that a screw made from that metal will be suitable for your application. For example, cheaper metals are generally less strong, durable and are not resistant to rusting. For this reason, we prefer to only supply high quality screws manufactured from A2 or A4 grades of stainless steel.
What types of stainless steel screws do you sell?
We are proud to supply our customers with all of the most popular styles of stainless steel screws. The most commonly purchased product sub categories for metal screws are our grub screws, cap screws, socket screws, countersunk screws and machine screws.
What styles of stainless steel bolts do you stock?
We stock all of the most popular styles of stainless steel bolts that are most commonly requested within the UK market. This includes the customer favourite - coach bolts, also known as carriage bolts. We also sell staples such as hex head bolts and flanged hex bolts. If you need a style of bolt that you can't find on our website, then please contact us as we may still be able to supply it.
Are stainless steel screws and stainless steel bolts sold individually?
All of our stainless steel screws and stainless steel bolts are sold individually. This is the same across all of our available styles, from coach bolts, grub screws, cap screws and socket screws, to hex bolts and machine screws.
What are grub screws used for?
Grub screws are unique as a type of screw, due largely to their headless nature. This is useful because it means that they can sunk into a threaded hole and provide a fixing that has no protruding elements. Due to this, grub screws offer a compact and space saving fixing that can be used as an effective locking component, while having no impact on the aesthetics of the application. They are a versatile and useful screw, which is used commonly both commercially and domestically in the UK. DIY projects and furniture assembly by often employ grub screws to join parts and form sturdy connections. They are useful across industries, mainly for the ability to secure various components and pieces of hardware together. For example, fixing knobs and handles onto shafts and spindles, or locking gears and sprockets onto shafts.
How do I choose the right grub screws?
Grub screws are also known as set screws. We currently supply two common varieties of stainless steel grub screws: slotted grub screws and socket set screws. The easiest way to determine the sizing of grub screw that you need for your application is to match it to the thread size of the object that you will be installing them in. We supply set screws of both styles in all of the most common metric thread sizes making them suitable for a plethora of use cases. This includes our most popular sizes: m4 grub screws and m3 grub screws. Our customers also regularly purchase m5 grub screws, m6 grub screws and m8 grub screws.
What is a coach bolt used for?
A coach bolt or carriage bolt, is arguably one of the most commonly used bolts in the UK. It is a large, heavy duty bolt and differs from other types of bolts in the way that not all of its shank is threaded. This increases the integrity and ability of the bolt to bear loads, making coach bolts a suitable choice for connections that need to be long lasting and hold considerable weight. As a go-to bolt for heavy applications, carriage bolts will often be found in roofing applications, such as fixing wooden roof trusses or beams together. You will likely see them used in timber construction projects, when securing heavy wooden beams, posts and joists. In the agricultural sector, they are often used to hang heavy farm gates and barn doors, or for securing other wooden structures. We sell the trusty coach bolt in thread sizes from M5 up to M16, with our most top sellers being m10 coach bolts and m12 coach bolts.
Do coach bolts need washers?
Generally we recommend stainless steel coach bolts to be used alongside a stainless steel washer. This is because coach bolts are usually utilised for heavy duty applications where high loads need to be secured. For these applications, placing a washer between the bolt head and the surface will improve grip, help to distribute pressure evenly and reduce potential corrosion of the bolt over time. All of these are essential for ensuring the long lifespan of any bolts used in load bearing applications.
Do you sell threaded rods?
Yes, amongst our selection of stainless steel screws and stainless steel bolts you will find our threaded rods, which are perfect for when you need to add a strong, durable thread to other threaded components or applications. Our most popular sizes are m12 threaded rods and m6 threaded rods, but we also cover metric sizes from M2 all the way up to M52.
Do you stock dowel pins?
We also supply dowel pins, or more specifically stainless steel dowel pins. Our stainless steel dowels are precision machined for a premium quality finish. They are perfect for joining unthreaded components together and are used commonly across the automotive and construction industries for many different applications. They are also commonly used in industrial and manufacturing settings to join parts of machinery or equipment together with accuracy and precision.
Where can I find retaining clips?
You can buy retaining clips or retaining rings from us! They are also known as e clips or circlips, and are a useful circular style of fastener. Our stainless steel circlips offer a corrosion resistant e clip that can be used as internal circlips or external circlips even in harsh outdoor and marine environments. The combination of strength and chemical resistance of the stainless steel, also makes these well suited for automotive applications, or those involving heavy machinery in industrial or manufacturing settings.
