Weld Nuts

Weld Nuts, also known as Projection Weld Nuts, are female fasteners designed to be spot welded onto another object, commonly sheet metal, providing a permanent threaded hole. Weld Nuts are commonly Square or Hex variants, with metric threads, but can be found with round or slab bases. These nuts have projections which are melted during the welding process providing a strong and secure connection.

Stainless Steel is perfect for outdoor use as it has a high corrosion resistance. You can read more about stainless steel here.

Our Weld Nuts are available in A2 or A4 Stainless Steel, in sizes from M3 to M16.

As well as weld nuts, we also stock Threaded Weld Studs.

Square Weld Nuts Vs Hex Square Nut

The shape of the weld nut rarely matters, but the different shapes of weld nuts come with a different number of projections. The Square Nut has 4 projections, whilst the Hex Nut has 3. Square nuts also have a larger surface area which is able to make a stronger connection.

How to use weld nuts

Weld nut installation requires a couple of key steps to ensure the nut is suitable for use.

  1. The surfaces of the object the nut will be welded to, needs to be cleaned to remove any dirt, rust or oil.
  2. The location of the nut must be perfect prior to welding. A pin is commonly used to line the hole up with the centre of the nut.
  3. The welding machine can now apply the correct heat and pressure which will melt the projections, fusing the nut into the surface of the object.
  4. The welded area must be allowed to cool naturally. Sudden cooling can weaken the weld.
