Button Screws

Button Screws or simply button head screws are fasteners that have a head feature similar to that of a button. They come in a range of different drivers depending on both the aesthetic they are being used with but also the torque needed to drive them into place.

They have a low profile type domed head which can be desirable in certain applications but also the wider head helps spread the load bearing of the screw, with or without the need of a washer. For further load spreading there is a flanged button screw version which has an even larger diameter haed than the standard, often used in certain application like roofing of corrugated iron.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a button head screw?

Stainless steel button head screws are fasteners that feature a low profile and rounded design of the screw's head. Stainless steel button head screws combine a good functional performance with aesthetic appeal, which makes them a popular choice of screw for many fastening applications across multiple industries within the UK.

What types of button head screws are there?

We sell five varieties of stainless steel button head screws. This includes the popular stainless steel hex button head screw. With their six-sided hex drive, these are generally considered to be the standard stainless steel button head screw. We also sell stainless steel button head torx screws and these feature a torx drive, instead of hex. Additionally, we offer flanged hex button screws and a flanged torx button screws. These flanged variations can offer better load distribution and stability in some applications and the flange can serve as a stopper to prevent over-insertion of the screw. Finally, we offer a pin torx stainless steel button head screws, these feature pin torx drives that can be used in applications that need to be tamper-resistant.

What are button head screws also known as?

Many customers will known this style of screw head as a dome head, leading to customers calling them stainless steel dome head screws or stainless steel dome head bolts. Another common term for this style of fastener head is a roundhead or round head type. This leads to descriptions like roundhead stainless steel screws and stainless round head bolts. Finally the drive or recess in the screw head is used as a method for distinguishing the type of button head screw. Stainless steel button head allen bolts or stainless steel button head torx screws are two popular examples of this. What is the difference between socket cap screws and button head screws?

There are some important differences between socket cap screws and button head screws. These can be summarised into distinctions in the shape and design of the screw's head that change the appearance and functionality of the two styles of screws. Socket head cap screws have a cylindrical shaped head, while button head screws have a dome shaped head. The Domed style of the iso 7380 screws offers a lower profile head than the din 912 socket cap screw. Additionally, the cylindrical head of socket cap screws can be fitted with knurled heads for increased grip. It isn't possible to add these to the lower profile button head screws. Functionally speaking, the cylindrical shape of the socket cap screws also provides improved torque, meaning that generally socket cap screws can be tightened harder than their button head counterpart. A final key difference in the two styles of screws is their appearances and aesthetics. Socket head cap screws are generally taller than button head screws due to the added size of the cylindrical head, this gives a more utilitarian and industrial look to the fastener. In comparison, the button head screws have a sleeker, rounded head with a lower profile. This design is generally considered to be more aesthetically pleasing, and this can explain the popularity of button head screws and their application in most general projects that don't require to extra torque of socket cap screws.
